Data Recovery Software Tips When The Windows Partition Is Corrupted
All data recovery software operates on the principle of understanding the file system format on the drive or storage device which it is scanning. If this file system format has become corrupted then not all tools will be capable of analyzing your drive partition. This article takes a look at recovery options the partition has been corrupted and your only left with the RAW file system format.
A regular internal hard drive will operate its file management system using fat 32 or NTFS normally. However, if the file system documents have become corrupted then there is the potential for Windows not recognize the format and start the PC using the raw format. This is the default partition format used when the computer is brand-new (before a new OS is installed). Some issues that cause this corruption include improper shutdown of the PC, a power spike to the computer or damage caused by a virus.
In reality, most computer repair help would propose attempting to fix the file system format first. You could try using products like Reimage which is capable of rectifying registry and system program files.
However, if you wish to use data recovery software then you should look for tools which are capable of handling the raw format. Many will suggest that they support fat 32 and NTFS as standard, and you could of course attempt using a free trial scans to see if they were in fact capable of also supporting the raw format. Manufacturers such as Brother Soft and Easeus provide data recovery software capable of handling the raw partitions.
One downside to using these tools is the fact that they are scanning documents on the hard drive without any sort of directory structure and file names. They can generally only identify documents by file size and the file type (e.g. WAV files, Microsoft Excel documents, etc) which doesn't make it easy to identify individual files. Instead, you generally have to copy all of the lost documents.
