Save Money with Sustainable Cloth Diapers
In the old days, mothers of newborn babies used cotton diapers that got soiled easily, required a lot of water and washing powder to wash and took time to dry. Then a Marion Donovan came up with the idea of disposable diapers in 1950 that made life easier for busy moms and quickly became an indispensable part of homes with infants. The inventor herself became a millionaire in not time at all.
But the days of disposable diapers are numbered because of growing concern for the environment. Although easy to put on, they can be used only once and pollute the environment. Because of this cloth diapers are quickly replacing disposable diapers. Cloth diapers can be made from cotton, hemp, bamboo and other materials. They can be used again and again until they are worn out. From the environmental point of view, diapers made of hemp and bamboo are more sustainable as these require less water to grow than cotton and are free of pesticides. Also, they are more absorbent and need to be changed less often. They are also easier to wash and dry more quickly.
There are many different types of cloth diapers. Fitted cloth diapers, all-in-ones (AIOs), pocket diapers and pre-fold cloth diapers are some of the more popular ones. Although most other cloth diapers are shaped to fit the baby, pre-folds are the simplest and the most versatile and least expensive. They come in many different options and are made of different fabrics. Because of their versatility, they are very popular with young mothers.
Regardless of the types of cloth diapers, they are all sustainable and good for the baby and the environment. They also come in beautiful designs and look great on babies. They are also more economical than disposable diapers because a single cloth diaper can be used over and over again.
