So you’re going to have a party and try to choose the appropriate music.  When trying to choose party music, you must consider the age and demographic of your guests.  Most importantly you want to stick to a music based theme for your party.  For example you may decide to have a Luau, dance, kids birthday party, or a wedding party.  Each genre is going to require careful selection.

Luau Party Music

If you’re throwing a Luau party theme, then you need to be sure to have music constantly playing in the background to sync your party guests.  The best way to prepare music for a Luau is to create a premade music mix with your favorite Hawaiian theme songs.  A fun way to get your guests involved is to hand out free ukuleles, lays, and hula hoops.  This way all guests are actively enjoying the Hawaiian theme music as they dance and strum along.  Popular Hawaiian themed songs may include Elvis Presley’s “Blue Hawaii” or anything by the Beach Boys.

Dance Party Music

An ever increasing party type is the home dance party.  This party is very popular among college students and young adults who are tired of the bar scene and the costs associated with it.  To throw a dance party you may decide to hire a DJ or have a friend who is a DJ come and play music at your party.  Another way to go is to get a karaoke machine or just play CDs where everyone can sing along.  Some choose to make mix CDs with popular dance music on them, which adds diversity to the music.  This type of party is fun for all ages from teenagers to adults.

Kids Party Music

If you’re throwing a party for your kids or specifically looking for birthday party music, you may want to consider incorporating music into fun games.  For example you can play musical chairs.  In musical chairs you to set up one fewer chairs than the total number guests at the party. You start the music and the kids dance around the chairs and once the music stops everyone must grab a seat.  The last kid standing is the one that must sit out.  This is a fun way to incorporate music into a kid party.

Halloween Party Music

If you’re looking to throw a Halloween party, the music selection gets just a little bit tricky.  A lot of adults will take this to mean dark and heavy music; however, this isn’t always the best type of music.  There are a lot of fun and light types of music out there that could relate to a Halloween party.  For example the ever popular “Monster Mash” would be a fun song to dance to and would also be a hit at your party.

When throwing a party, possibly the best way to choose the music is to ask the advice of your guests.   Your friends and family should help you compile a nice party music playlists to play at your party.  This way you are creating a mix of the best party music for those who will be in attendance.  Your party music mix is vital to creating a fun atmosphere at your party.  Good party music says it all!
