Great Action Movies That Were Remade
Great action movies often call for repetition, and usually that comes in the form of watching them repetitively. That’s just fine, but for the sake of producing remakes and introducing younger generations to older yet equally satisfying films of the action genre, some action movies just seem meant to be remade. Here are some great action movies that have been remade, and some that should or could be.
Karate Kid (2010) – this remake of the classic 1984 film, that easily earns a spot on the list of great action movies, is family friendly and stars raising star Jaden smith alongside the legendary Jackie Chan. It’s a unique twist on the old tale, with a major change of location (from LA to China) and younger actors take up both roles. It’s refreshing, hip and humorous and high powered with martial arts. .
King Kong (2005) – The giant ape who takes an immediate liking to the lovely leading lady (played by Naomi Watts this time around) never gets old. The 1933 original film was beautifully portrayed to the best abilities of those involved in its production; however, the love that modern movie buffs have developed for special effects and films that are larger than life gave way to the appeal of this cult classic being remade and its remake being as embraced as it was.
Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) – is a remake of H.B. Halicki’s 1974 film of the same title. Starring Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie and Giovanni Ribisi, this action film features fast cars, some major car theft and a plot to keep you enjoying the ride.
Lethal Weapon – The 1987 buddy cop classic may have fallen short on its follow up films, but it still falls into the great action movies category and could be remade if done right. The perfect pair up of two of today’s finest, funniest actors and the antics and action could begin all over again.
James Bond Series – the role, not the actual films, have been redone time and time again. There’re always enjoyable, so long as the Bond is brilliantly portrayed and the style and core of the films remain.
Commando (1985) – the Fox company film that took Arnold Schwarzenegger to super star status is planned to be remade and fans of the classic are hopeful that the redone version retains some of the original’s charm, in the form of fantastic blow ups.
