New Life For Your Old Bedroom Furniture: Beds

Getting a great new bedroom makeover is something we all doing but what happens to all of our old bedroom furniture and what's the best way to get rid of it? When it comes to disposing of bedroom furniture, beds are probably the most tricky item to deal with, due to the different materials involved in their construction. Don't despair though, there are ways to deal with this dilemma.

Renovate your old bed

If you love your old bed but can't see it as part of the new scheme, then why not renovate it and give it a makeover all of its own? Specialists exist who can strip and refinish your old bed to your specifications. If you want it stripping down, you can paint your bed and add whatever finishing touches you like to complete the look. In fact this treatment might recycle all your old bedroom furniture and give you a great new look bedroom at a fraction of the price.

Sell it on

Perhaps you really want a fresh start with your room. If so, it's worth advertising your old bed frame for sale. This way someone gets a bargain and you can do your bit for the environment! If you have a creative flair, you can always renovate first and sell it at a profit.

Give it away

If you're in a hurry to get rid, house clearance specialists will pay you to take your furniture away. For the philanthropic decorator, charities are very appreciative of good quality pieces. They might want to sell your stuff and use the money for charity or it can be used by those less fortunate.

You can leave your stuff on the street for anyone who wants to take it of course. But then there is a risk that the authorities will take it and put it into landfill. Better to advertise in local stores, ask around your friends or get in touch with your local freecycle group for a better response. Go to Freecycle.org for more information.

New for old beds!

There are now some large bed manufacturers that will recycle your old bed for you, mattress and everything. Companies such as Dreams in the UK have their own recycling facilities. Your bed will go into the creation of new products and thus be saved from the terrible waste that is the dreaded landfill.

Some forethought on your part is one of the most effective ways to help the environment and find a home for your old bedroom furniture.
